THE BENEFITS OF JESSNER PEEL TREATMENTS
If you are looking for something to rejuvenate tired skin and regain a softer, smoother and more youthful looking complexion, you could do much worse than try a Jessner Peel treatment to do just that. Amazing results can be achieved, without the huge cost and physical trauma associated with invasive cosmetic surgery.
SO, WHAT IS A JESSNER PEEL TREATMENT?
Essentially, a Jessner Peel is a form of medium depth chemical peel. It is usually performed by a qualified dermatologist and is a really effective way of removing the uppermost layers of skin. It is suitable for a wide range of skin types, ages and degrees of skin health, but is particularly helpful for those with oily, discolored or moderately wrinkled skin. During the treatment, surplus oil is drastically reduced at the same time as the potentially blocked sebaceous follicles are opened and cleared.
WHAT’S INVOLVED IN A JESSNER PEEL?
The treatment involves using resorcinol, salicylic acid and lactic acid which performs an exfoliating action on the surface and down through the deeper layers of the skin. The ideal candidate for this kind of procedure is men and women who experience either uneven skin tones, fine lines or acne. The technique can also be used to reduce hyperpigmentation, leaving the skin smooth and vibrant. Now to the actual treatment itself. First of all, the skin is cleansed using a glycolic cleanser, which removes oil, dirt and dead skin, which is referred to as the ‘horny layer’. This is followed by the application of lactic acid which exfoliates, salicylic acid for penetrating through to the deeper layers and the Resorcinol for those who suffer with acne. This hardens into a film, which is then peeled off the face, being cleansed with water at the same time. Last on the list is a calming mask to cool the face down, as moisturiser shouldn’t be used for a few days after the treatment for fear of reducing its effects.
ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS TO JESSNER PEELS?
You can expect your skin to peel a little for about a week after the treatment. This is completely normal and should give you no cause for concern. It’s important not try and remove peeling skin before it is ready to come off, as it can lead to skin breakage and infection. You may find that your skin is quite tender and can also experience milde swelling and redness, but you must do your best not to pick at it. Cold sores can also occur, but only if you are already prone to them.
IS THERE ANYONE WHO SHOULDN’T HAVE A JESSNER PEEL?
This type of chemical peel is suitable for a wide range of skin types, but there are occasions when having one is not advisable. They include:
- Pregnant women – especially those who are breastfeeding
- Those who suffer from severe asthma
- People who suffer from eczema, psoriasis, rosacea or lupus
- Those with inflamed acne, broken skin or other chronic skin conditions
